DoCoMo Communications Laboratories Europe Gmbh

DoCoMo Euro-Labs (DoCoMo) was established in November 2000 in Munich, Germany, in order to conduct research on leading mobile communications technologies that can respond to the requirements of a highly advanced multimedia age. It is part of NTT DoCoMo's European involvement. DoCoMo Euro-Labs is committed to collaborate with operators, vendors, universities and research institutes. In addition, DoCoMo Euro-Labs aims at influencing standardization bodies and industrial forums such as ITU-T, ITU-R, OMG, IETF, W3C, 3GPP, ETSI SCP, SDR Forum, NFC Forum and others.

Expertise brought to CONNECT

DoCoMo Euro Labs has a strong expertise in development of cutting edge systems for the support of new business models that can provide a mobile operator with new revenue streams. The research performed in the Lab covers the many different layers of infrastructure that are required to deliver a modern mobile telephone system, starting from the radio access, through the different layers of middleware, ending to consumer level services such as billing and ticketing services that are provisioned though the mobile phone. The S3 (Smart Service Solution) group that will participate in Connect has a strong experience in developing and deploying dynamic service infrastructures which adapt the service provisioning to the services that are available in the user context, and in exploiting semantic representation of data and services to discover services that are available and to lower the interoperability barriers to supporting automatic service provisioning.

Contribution to CONNECT research

DoCoMo’s contribution to CONNECT will be to support the semantic description of the different aspects of Connected systems. DoCoMo will further contribute use cases that will require the emergent connectors developed in CONNECT. DoCoMo will also contribute at the standardization effort through its participation in organizations such as OMG and others.

The CONNECT project acknowledges the financial support of the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme within the ICT theme of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research of the European Commission.
